Can You Cure Trich?

It almost goes without saying that many people who pull out their hair try to cure trich. However, perhaps the word ‘cure’ doesn’t necessarily apply to trichotillomania. After all, there is no magical pill that can stop people from wanting to pull out their own hair. There are mainly just methods and techniques that people use as a way of helping them suppress their urges.

Buying A ‘Cure’

I know that there are quite a few people online who say they can cure trich. You can never know for sure, but hopefully what they are selling is a method that did work for them and could therefore work for you too. However, I don’t think that the same thing works for all people, or else we would all be sharing our cures.

I have looked at some of those websites selling trichotillomania cures. Some of them aren’t too expensive, though I haven’t bought any. I do think they could be useful because:

a) They could give a valuable method to help stop pulling your hair, or
b) They might provide you with information to help you understand why you pull your hair.

I think the second point is extremely important when it comes to trying to cure trich. After all, there may never be a cure but we still need to learn how to love ourselves and accept hair pulling as a part of that.

Trichotillomania is a hard condition to cure. The internet has a lot of usefull information though!

I’ve had trich since I was age 6, and at age 52, I have found no cures. I’ve tried hypnotherapy and counseling. Ultimately, what has given me the most peace is self-acceptance.

Recently I launched a new website of audio podcasts for hair pullers. You can download the 7 to 8 minute podcast to you iPod and listen to the soothing and comforting message. I don’t promise a cure, although I hope by listening to the message it will provide enough comfort to help a hair puller stop, even if for only the day. A free message is available to download at http://www.DosesOfComfort.com.

I’m really of the mind, looking back, that the ‘cure’ comes with a reduction in stress/anxiety. Of course, I am only really referring to my own experience in this case. I was quite unsettled when I started my hair-pulling and as the situation around me became calmer, so I gradually stopped. I’m a little sceptical of ‘cures’ based on anything other than self-acceptance, as I honestly think that that’s how things get better. Otherwise the stress of pulling makes the pulling worse..
