How to help others with Trichotillomania #4

POSTED BY: mspennylane

Telling them to ’stop pulling’ will make it worse: Many people, including parents and partners, just tell those effected to ’stop it’. Now, if it was really that easy to stop, wouldn’t they have already stopped? In many cases they might just end up doing it behind your back, or feeling ashamed by themselves after these constant reminders that they can’t ‘just stop’.

This is part four of a series of posts every Saturday on how to help people who have trich… This can also be found at Marmalade Skies, my personal blog.

That’s one of the things I find very frustrating. People don’t understand why you can’t just stop doing it, and it’s so hard to try get them to understand.

I know – shouldn’t it be obvious that if it were that easy to top we would? Thanks for visiting Amanda

Being told to stop when you can’t creates a sense of shame, which is like pouring gasoline on fire. I know this all too well.

Good advice, and glad to see someone blogging about this.
