Stop them feeling ashamed: Often people with trich may feel ashamed about what they do. Perhaps not necessarily ashamed about doing it, since trichsters often come to learn that it is not their fault, but are still ashamed about what others think, about how they look, about how much time it takes up, about how they let it take control sometimes.
The best thing you can do is to show them that it isn’t really as obvious or important as they may sometimes think. People don’t look as much as they think. It doesn’t make any difference to what they mean to you. Trichsters probably know all this already in their heads but, coming from someone they care about, it will mean a lot, especially in those difficult moments.

My name's Penny, and I started OnTrich (a trichotillomania blog) to try and raise awareness about hair pulling, and also as a way to help me deal with my own pulling. I'm a 23 year old girl from the UK and I've been pulling for 13 years. Get in touch if you want to chat or need any help - I love meeting people here.
